The current chaotic dispute regarding the proposal to build a mosque close to the area of Ground Zero in New York has exposed some fairly unpleasant distortions and false views about the faith of true Islam. Firstly, the Twin Tower attack was not an action condoned or accepted by Islam and the mainstream body of Muslim scholars and intellectuals - this has been repeated again and again with tireless abandon (read my own contribution here). Many forget that Muslim were also victims in the atrocity, many died in the cowardly act. Are they not included amongst the souls to be mourned?
